Chief Complaint/Injury - International Patient Care Complex Proximal Humerus Fracture Sustained in ski accident in Italy. The injury required surgical treatment for a displaced proximal humerus fracture (shoulder) and a titanium rod and screws are placed in the humeral canal. The patient then returns home via medical jet and is transferred directly to Sibley Memorial
Fracture nonunions and infections can be devastating for patients. Particularly when they occur overseas and either limited resources or opportunities make obtaining care a challenge. This case demonstrates successful treatment of a complex humeral nonunion after a motorcycle accident in Africa.
